Markets and Services
Growing Market
Increasingly Governments and utilities are looking offshore for their future energy resources. Countries across Europe and the world are committed to moving to renewable energy with offshore wind, wave and tidal projects and to maximize utilization by interconnecting power grids across bodies of water. Subsea cable installation is a way forward in meeting the power consumption demands for the future.
In offshore wind & subsea power interconnects, the role of the cable installer is core to the execution of a successful project. Long experience in route planning, permitting, cable handling, vessel management, environmental awareness, project installation and ultimately long term maintenance is core to success.
In short, safely and efficiently delivering the power across great distances under the ocean, from either the turbine to the shore, or from one shore to another, is no small feat. Global Marine Systems Energy brings knowledge of the cabling industry, and a thorough understanding of subsea engineering and sea floor mapping.
Advisory Services
Global Marine Systems Energy provides a number of services directly related to all phases of a project planning cycle. These services are intended to work along side related planning activities to ensure cable related issues are anticipated and accounted for in advance. These services are designed to ensure common problems and issues are resolved early in the project, that a smooth installation is achieved and that the ultimate availability and operations of the offshore transmission is protected via a cost-effective, responsive, long-term maintenance model.

Subsea Power Cable Installation
When it comes to working with offshore windfarms, Global Marine Systems Energy draws on Global Marine Systems’ unrivalled experience. We understand that installing a submarine cable is complex and time consuming, and must draw on a range of disciplines and skills which vary from project to project. Yet the over-riding requirements are for proven cable working experience, expertise and outstanding project management ability.
Global Marine Systems Energy has the experience, ability, tools and knowledge to perform cable work, burial, intervention, and protection works as well as deep water burial, recovery and maintenance.
We are equally at home in deep water as in the shallows and we have a wide range of specialist equipment and highly trained teams, along with a fleet of vessels, ROVs and related equipment fit for purpose.
Subsea Power Cable Maintenance
For over 150 years, Global Marine Systems has been maintaining subsea cables. When it comes to offshore energy, Global Marine Energy calls on this experience, as well as our more recent experience with some of the first windfarm projects in the world, to quickly and effectively complete a submarine cable repair, should a cable become damaged or be rendered inoperative over the course of its expected working life. We have the proper vessels – in the case of offshore windfarms, these are anchor barges, the right equipment, proven procedures, and most importantly, experienced personnel including qualified cable jointers. This enables us to meet our customers’ goal of minimizing operational disruption and costly downtime. We offer different subsea cable repair packages, tailored to meet our customers’ specific requirements for response time and other factors.
